Cookies
What Kubly stores in your browser, what it is for, and how we count how the app is used without cookies.
Last updated 24 October 2026
The short version
- Kubly sets a few cookies of its own, all needed to run the service: one keeps you logged in, one remembers a friend's referral link, two remember which currency to show prices in, and one your answer to the banner.
- There are no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers, anywhere. On our public pages we set one analytics cookie only if you say yes on the banner.
- Inside the app we count how Kubly is used without setting a cookie or storing anything on your device for it, whatever you chose on the public pages.
- So there is no banner inside the app; the one on our public pages asks before anything is set, and you can change your answer any time with “Cookie settings”.
What is stored in your browser
sb-*-auth-token
What it is: Keeps you logged in
How long: Until you log out
kubly_ref
What it is: Remembers whose referral link you arrived from, so they get their reward when you subscribe
How long: 30 days
kubly_currency
What it is: The currency you chose for prices (pounds, dollars or euros)
How long: 1 year
kubly_geo_currency
What it is: The currency we first showed you, worked out from the country your connection appears to be in so prices make sense before you choose. The country itself is not kept
How long: 30 days
kubly_access
What it is: Before launch only: remembers that you came in with an early-access link
How long: 1 year; it stops mattering at launch and can be deleted
kubly_consent
What it is: Your answer to the banner on our public pages (Accept or No thanks), so we don’t ask again
How long: 12 months
ph_*
What it is: Public pages, after Accept only: tells our visitor counting that two page views came from the same browser, and remembers which page or campaign brought you here. Set by Kubly’s own address, read by PostHog
How long: 12 months, or until you choose No thanks
Browser storage (no cookie)
What it is: Small settings kept on that device only: which items you have checked off on a scavenger hunt, which child profile you had open, your paper size for printing, and whether a Where’s Bexo scene’s sound is on. After Accept on the public pages, the visitor-counting library also keeps its own copy of the ph_* value there
How long: Until you clear your browser
All of these are set by Kubly itself. None is shared with anyone or used to follow you to other sites. You can clear them in your browser's settings at any time; the only effect is that you are signed out.
Counting how the app is used, without cookies
To see which parts of Kubly are useful and where parents get stuck, we record a small number of events as the app is used: that a child profile was added, that a story was made and in which format, that a colouring page or activity was made, that a page was printed or saved as a PDF, that a plan was chosen, changed or cancelled, which pages of the app were opened, and — on the public pages, after Accept — which public pages were read and which plan or button was clicked on the pricing page. That is the whole list; it lives in our code and nothing outside it is sent.
Each event carries:
- a scrambled account reference — a one-way hash of your account number that we can match to your account but no one else can, and that never changes into your email or name;
- the kind of thing it was (a story, a colouring page, the Family plan), never the thing itself — not the story, the picture, the idea, the photo, the homework question or your child's name;
- the page of the app you were on, with any identifiers and search terms removed from the address;
- your browser and device type, as every website receives them.
Nothing is stored on your device to do this: the counting library keeps what it needs in memory for the page you are on and forgets it when you leave. It does not record your screen, your clicks, your keystrokes or what you type. These events are sent to PostHog, which stores them for us in the EU (Germany) for twelve months, under a contract that limits what it may do with them. PostHog never receives your email address, your IP address's location, or anything about your child. The events travel through our own address (kubly.app/ingest) on their way to PostHog, so that browser extensions do not silently drop them; that changes the route, not what is sent.
We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving Kubly, weighed against yours and your child's. If you would rather your account were not counted, email support@kubly.app and we will exclude it. If you accepted the banner on our public pages before signing up, the pages you read before you joined are linked to your account's scrambled reference, so we can see which pages help parents decide. Nothing about your child is ever part of that.
Our public pages
The pages you can read without logging in — the home page, pricing and these legal pages — send nothing to any analytics service until you answer the banner. If you choose Accept, we count which pages are read, where visitors come from (a search engine, a link, a campaign) and how far they scroll, and — later — we may record anonymised sessions of how these pages are used: every word and everything typed is blanked out before it leaves your browser, there are no pictures, and the recording stops the moment you log in or open the app. Recordings are kept for 30 days; this page will say when they start. If you choose No thanks, or don't choose, none of that happens. Change your mind any time with at the bottom of every public page.
Changes
If what we store or count changes, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell account holders beforehand where the change matters. See the Privacy policy for everything else we do with information.
